SIA Launches New Consumer Knowledge Hub
The Stove Industry Association has launched its new Knowledge Hub, bringing together a growing library of free videos offering trusted advice on choosing, using and maintaining modern wood burning stoves. Covering topics from Ecodesign and Smoke Control Areas to Ready to Burn fuel and chimney sweeping, the Knowledge Hub provides clear, evidence-based guidance for consumers and industry alike.
Independent Review leads to publication of revised ASA Ruling
The Stove Industry Association has welcomed a revised Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) Ruling following an Independent Review, which clarified the interpretation of emissions evidence relating to modern wood burning stoves while leaving the overall advertising decision unchanged.

Modern wood burning stoves have a clear role to play in our low carbon future and can help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels
The UK government “sees biomass as a low-carbon fuel provided that it is produced from sustainable sources” (Source: National Audit Office) and the Scottish Government defines biomass combustion as producing “net zero carbon emissions at the point of use” (Source:New Build Heat Standard (amended) 2024: business and regulatory impact assessment (see Section 10 and 11).
A modern stove will use less than a third of the amount of wood fuel compared to an open fire to give the same amount of heat. Wood fuel is renewable and sustainable, and can be locally sourced, helping to further reduce the carbon intensity of home heating.
